Nistor Tătar from Rădăuţi and Petre Costea from Houston, Texas, USA, live and work 10,000 km away from each other. The first is the Mayor of a town in Bucovina and the second is a lawyer in the American metropolis. They have never seen each other until Saturday, May 18, when both have discovered a few things in common: a passion for running, lots of gray hair and engaging in charitable action.
And so, at 10am on Saturday 18th May 2019, the two of them were at the start line in front of the town hall for the third edition of the relay “Companies for the Community”. The relay initiative designed to mobilize the employees of different companies in the community and the public in general to run with the goal of attracting volunteers and funds for projects of the association ‘Door to Home’ in Radauti, including the building of homes for families in need as part of the annual program ‘Bucovina Build & Travel’. Sixty runners covered the 12 segments of the relay totaling a total distance of 25km.
The first segment of the relay finished in the car park of the Olint store in Radauti, where the Mayor Nistor Tatar handed over the house key, the relay baton, to the lawyer Petre Costea for the next running segment to the Dacia Service/Darex Auto. Running in the Europarlament election campaign as an independent candidate, the American lawyer with Romanian origins, proposed a twinning of Radauti and Houston to the Radauti mayor. “Why not?” was the response of the running mayor. Costea has a long history in Romania as the president of the Alliance of Families in Romania and the Radauti organization as a home builder for families in need with 112 homes built with the support of donors, sponsors, volunteers and town hall which has offered land and infrastructure.
"It was a great honor for me to run this mini-marathon, it's good for mind, body, soul. The family is very important, she needs a house, a home, but also the cultural and value dimensions," said the lawyer Costea, who at the end of his visit visited the association's projects.
"Thanks to the City Hall, RuNNuti Club, GAL Association, the sports teachers Munteanu and Ciobara, Civic Radauti and Good Samaritan Beiuş, Killer, Enel, Darex Auto and the 60 runners who contributed to the success of this edition. If, in addition to the volunteers and funds, there will also be a twinning with Houston, we would be very happy," says Adrian Ciorna, president of Door to Home, the host of the relay with David Mariniuc, the executive director. Nicoleta Niculescu and Alina Bodnar, beneficiary families, along with their children Andrei and Elisei participated and as usual, Killer srl mobilized the most volunteers, numbering 8.
Interested individuals can contribute to the charity project by donating online at http://doortohome.galantom.ro on any of the runners’ fundraising pages or direct into Door to Home’s bank account IBAN RO22 BTRL RONC RT0V 2711 8201 at Banca Transilvania Radauti branch. The relay finished at 1.30pm in front of the Radauti Town Hall where diplomas were awarded.
On the occasion of the event, the association announced that Door to Home is its new name and it is in the administrative process of changing its name from its previous name which was Habitat pentru Umanitate Rădăuţi.
